Actually this is a nice idea, especially for sunrise/sunset directions (would be cool if you could drag the path and it would change the date immediately). I thought about this but unfortunately I didn't find the Math for such calculations, need some help from a good astronomer.

if you go back to the years 1950 til 1960 there was no daylight saving in Westeurope. I expect the same behaviour as for the years 1961 til 1979. So from 1950 til 1979 there was no daylight saving time.

As a photographer, I like to know the position of the planets and constellations at dusk and dawn. They make great background for landscape photography.

I would like to see the sun line all the way to the edge of the map, even if I zoom in or move the view so the position marker is way outside the current view.
I think a good idea would be to add more details on the position of the sun. Able to issue a "langtag" (like google maps) with suitable tilt and azimuth of the sun.
The sun path could have marks delineating each hour for better visual comparison over time. Say you set the slider for 10:30 or so then you could visually estimate where for the preceding and next hour.
Where are sunrise times similar in the US? I would assume that two locations that are not necessarily close to each other could have the same sunrise, if one were southwest of the first. I would love to see this depicted in a map!
